A Warm Touch to the Elderly

We at Jyestha Buddy are all about providing that warm emotional support to the elderly. Here we connect senior citizens to young volunteers with ignited minds and warm hearts, trained, and verified. Senior citizens (Jyeshta) living alone, staying away from their near ones and left unattended get connected with young and willing volunteers in their nearby area presently for Thane city limit.

It is a reality that many senior citizens are left behind unattended for reasons and circumstances which could have been made more conducive to them. They need love and support, for normal and a life of dignity not because they need it but because they deserve it. They have done their duties during their active life and been the receptacle of all learning and wisdom that life has bestowed on them to pass on. They have every right to live a dignified life. The promoters realised this need of society and developed this App to connect them with young volunteers to help them on this platform and strive to make their lives better. Up till now a known alternative is an old age home.

However, there is dearth of old age homes at present. And those available are either not maintained well or very expensive. Unaffordable to common man. Moreover, staying in old age home attaches a social stigma in society. Our website and App addresses this issue. Senior Citizens would get all required help in the confines of their own homes, which otherwise their children would have provided. We connect young volunteers out there who are willing to come forward and offer quality and empathy to the lives of senior citizens. By connecting these groups, senior citizens (Jyeshtha) get warm support in their day to day lives, thereby feeling cared for. We understand that many senior citizens may be hesitant to trust strangers, which is why we have a thorough screening process of our volunteers.

The app also intends to create job opportunity to young volunteers who can take advantage by using this app to earn honourably and engage in noble philanthropy in their respective localities at a time of their own convenience. They can make use of their spare time and this opportunity is open to all college going students, housewives and retired people as it is a weekend job.

Eligibility Citeria for Volunteers (Buddy)

The age criteria is 22 years and above, candidates need to have a minimum qualification of having passed Std. 12 th . They should be fluent in Hindi and Marathi. English would be an advantage but is not deemed compulsory. They should be mobile savvy and own a vehicle which is preferred but not compulsory. The essential prerequisite is that of their character and personalities. They should naturally possess a warm human touch and should be compassionate to senior citizens.

All our volunteers go through a thorough credibility check and are interviewed for their suitability, before they are matched with a senior citizen. We also provide ongoing support and monitoring to ensure that both parties are comfortable and have peace of mind with the arrangement. Our goal is to create a community, an ecosystem where senior citizens can feel valued, cared for, and connected to the world around them for their day to day needs. We believe that everyone deserves to live a fulfilling life, regardless of age or circumstance. By amicably connecting seniors with young volunteers, we hope to create a positive impact, mutually, and add value to community building and care.

*It is also requested for children/ relatives to register on behalf of their parents / relatives if they are not tech savvy to expediate the process with convenience.

Meet the Founder

The founder of this App is Mr Prakash Mirashi, a Mumbai based civil engineer. He served at several public and private organisations, including corporates in India and oversees. His hard work, perseverance and cutting edge business acumen saw him rise to CXO levels. During his distinguished tenure in the capacity of a Vice President, he handled mammoth and critical domestic and international projects successfully. That's on the business side.

As an individual, he believes in social responsibility. Through Rotary International, he has handled several projects for old age homes, and provided scholarship to needy students. However, his focus and concern has been for the welfare of senior citizens, whose condition due to the changing socio economic landscape grabbed his attention by the time he was in his early 50s. He lent a helping hand to an old age home from Panvel.

While interacting with the inmates he acutely felt that they are staying there with compulsion while missing and loving their own homes. He wanted to do something more in this field of philanthropy. And then the idea of this app dawned on him during his recent stay in USA, when he interacted with his host, a techie. That idea blossomed after he returned to India and took the shape of this App. By nurturing a profound bond with the senior citizens (Jyeshtha) confined to old age homes, he is not only developing a culture of care for senior citizens with young volunteers, but also creating job opportunities for many. A socially constructive way to bridge the gap between two generations.
